About

Hello my name is Daniel Postlethwaite, I’m a blogger/writer based in Blackpool, Lancashire, wishing this was my full time job but at the moment working in a call centre to pay the bills….one day!

It’s alright here I suppose!

Got a degree in Creative Writing and Film and TV Screenwriting which was fun.

Any questions please feel free to get in touch and I’ll be more than happy to help.

I’ll revamp this a little more later.

  1. Hey, this is great. You’ve totally laid out your goals. I never, never did that. It seems to me you’re going exactly where you say. Brilliant.

    1. Hi Daniel
It’s been good to look through the entries on your blog and read about you. I’m impressed with your drive and ambition and your following your passion so wholeheartedly…
your recent poem (Every Time) speaks to your sensitivities and i like that too!

it’s taken me many more years to discover my passion is writing that it has you so i have to commend you on knowing what you want and putting it out there to the world
all the best for the future…liz

  2. Awesome, who knows maybe one day we’ll see one of your works on TV? Sounds like you’ve got it all worked out pretty well 🙂 University of Central Lancs is one of the universities I’m looking at for English Language and Journalism. I’m hoping to get into media as well 🙂

    1. English and Journalism are awesome here, especially Journalism, they have strong links to the Film and TV Production students here as well as the Screenwriting students, so if you needed a segment writing for example you could email the screenwriting tutor and he would pass it along.

I have update this pages just now, giving a more in depth about me aha, feel free to reread if you like.

  3. Hi, looks really interesting with some brilliant goal aspirations. You visited my blog earlier. The story sample I enclosed is actually set north of Manchester in the Bolton/Clifton/Salford areas. Good luck with your writing.

  4. Very interesting bio, Daniel. The good thing about being able to admit you were a “rebel” is that you’re through it (been there, done that type of thing) and now you can focus on what you really want to do in life. Good luck with all your endeavors!

    1. Thank you (: I’m struggling to find any jobs related to writing at the moment though aha, although I have applied for a volunteer position at Preston Guild, something that is run in my city.

  5. Thanks for the follow! I was really happy and to think you’re a writer. . peer reviews and the very appreciative community really get me going 😀 Looking forward to read your writings as well! Good luck! ^_^

    1. Hi, I think you are totally right, peer reviews and feedback are what make a writer better, and I think WordPress is a very good place, to do that.

      Thanks for following me (:

  6. Hi Daniel.. I just saw that u liked my post and I came here.. You have a very interesting About me column and I enjoyed reading your posts too. So I am gonna follow your blog. Keep blogging 🙂

  7. thank you Daniel for subscribing to my blog. I value every reader and take care that each blog is worthy for others to read. I am a published writer as you probably picked up and I am also a teacher of creative writing. I have added you to my list of favourites and hopefully can make useful comments now and then.

Forgive me for asking but you’re no relation to the famous and recently deceased Pater are you?

    1. Hi I saw your about me page, very impressed with the amount you have done, I look forward to reading your work.

And unfortunately not, although that would have been amazing.

Although, I could be? Who knows, I think he was from the same sort of area my family came from, and it’s not the most popular name, but if I am it’s going to be an insanely long family tree from him to me aha. It’d be interesting to find out some day.

Hopefully my name will help me in the industry when I apply for things aha.

  8. Hello, thanks for the follow. This is great. Strangely enough, I was doing a Creative Writing BA before switching to Sociology; now I write my novel in my spare time : )

Hope you manage to achieve your goals; they sound very interesting : )

  9. Dear Daniel,

Thank you for following my blog and I hope life has great things in store for you.

    Take care!
    Yousuf

  10. Thanks for following my blog and I’m doing the same with yours.
For background might I suggest http://redoable.wordpress.com/about. All that experience I had and I’m starting all over again.after a stroke. Stick to your plan. The only bad advice I ever gave was to a journalism student who was offered a job in 1978 – I said “Too new, I don’t know if I would risk it”. The job was with CNN. He later became a Vice-President. He had the foresight to hire me.

    1. Wow, it’s inspiring that you went through that but still carry on, I’m hoping to see my plan through to the end, I would either love to writer a novel or a feature film eventually.

      I hope you’re well (:

  11. How are you, Daniel? Firstly, I love your blog! I noticed a “Dr. Who” category…my son has me addicted to it…River Song is my girl 😉 And, also like you, he is a 20 year-old film student. Your refreshingly quirky and intelligent…LOVE IT! Thank you so much for visiting and following my blog 🙂 It’s an honor to have a gifted writer, such as yourself recognizing my blog in that way. I look forward to reading more of what you have to say.
    Blessings,
    Dulcinea

    1. Hi, yeah Dr. Who is awesome, I can’t wait for it to return to the screens this year, so looking forward to it aha.

Is he really? What University does he go to?

Thanks for the kind words, I hope my work won’t disappoint you. Same goes for you, I look forward to keeping up with your blog (:

      Dan

  12. I wouldn’t say you’ve “come to it late.” I was 23 or 24 before I started writing, though Astea knows I wish I’d started sooner.
You almost made my head spin with all the academic stuff…I’m not a fan of academics or organized education and a downright enemy of forced schooling but you seem to have come through ok 🙂 Just remember not to post anything here you want to try and sell…

    1. Hi, yeah of course, although I do post my scripts here that I may some day want to sell, it’s good to get feedback on them. My plan with my novel is once I have something tangible, only to post excerpts that I think need focus on, and then release the final thing once it is complete and has made the rounds of friends and family (:

Im not opposed to going to school, it is necessary to educate the youth, although something clearly isn’t working with the “chav” culture we have in England. They’re getting younger and younger, which makes me feel old saying that, and I’m only 20!

      Thanks for your comment (:

  13. Well, I never had a day of formalized schooling in my life, and I came out ok 🙂 Nor, although I realize some people dislike these stories, did the author of the Inheritance series (actually, he may have had some I’m not sure when his folks took him out or if they ever sent him.) All that is necessary to educate youth is their parents. Of course, that’s partly because the only thing you really need to be taught is how to read. Once you’ve got that, especially now a days, you can learn anything else you want relatively easily.

I don’t know much about script writing or the process for selling scripts, I just know I was irritated to find out that the stories I’d put online years ago became automatically unsaleable. Obviously, I got over it.

    1. I guess education nowadays is mainly for jobs, but as you said you’ve came out ok, so I guess it’s not really needed, I think the main advantage is to help demo a wide range of things to see if you can find your “calling” in life, although that again, is easily done outside of an educational system.

I never knew Paolini never attended school, I really liked his books, the fact they made a film (albeit a horrific one) showed someone somewhere thought he had talent to. I really want his latest book, but I will have to dig out the first three again I think to get up to speed.

      1. Like I said, I don’t know if he was “homeschooled” all along as I was but I think possibly and I know at least from a young age. And he earned a degree of some kind when he was like 15 or 16. I’ve only read Eragon and while it certainly has flaws and is definitely quite derivative, I’d say it was a pretty good effort for someone as young as he was at the time.
And yes, the Eragon movie was pretty iffy. The only really good parts was that actor who played Durza, I forget his name but he put in a nice performance, and the 10 seconds of Ed Speleers with his shirt off.
Now a days…and, really, for its entire relatively short history, forced schooling is mostly for social engineering (what might be more dramatically called brainwashing) and babysitting. It’s even worse over here. The American school system was created to facilitate the doing of incredible things economically and it succeeded at that for some time but at a cost much much higher than most people realize (despite the fact that said cost is within them and stares them in the face day in and day out.)
But, I grow maudlin. I mostly stopped back by to say, thanks for following me.

  14. Hi Daniel,
To begin with, thank you for following my page – ermmm I’m new to blogging so I reckon its still a page for me! So, yeah, great intro and I will read your work soon and post my feedback.
Wish you all the best and I’m sure with your determination you will achieve your goals 🙂
    Cheers
    Lima

    1. It’ll get there eventually, don’t worry about it, I’ve been at ity for about a year now and it’s only just getting off the ground for me, but its a learning experience and if you comment and talk to as many people as you can then you will gain a few friends in the community (: Good luck with it all!

  15. Thanks for reading my blog today. I’ve read your ‘About’ page. ‘Go where your enthusiam leads you’ is advice given to me that hasn’t failed me. You say you’re looking for writing competitions, etc. If you haven’t found First Writer, they will send you listings every day for a small fee.

    Good luck with your studies.

    Ann

  16. Hello Daniel
I’m surprised you think coming to novel writing at age 20 is ‘late’. I would say it is very early actually. I did not begin to write my first one (since abandoned) until I was about 40 and my latest ones were written in the last year.
Congratulations on having your goals in my mind at your age. I was still messing about until I was much much older.
    (another) Daniel

    1. Thanks (: I just read so many about’s where the person has books and books written under their blankets with torches in boxes in their wardrobes, and I just figured, that’s how it was for a lot of people, clearly I’m wrong.

Thanks again for your comment (:

  17. Wow, Daniel, so glad I found your blog today. The girl running photo was intriguing and pulled me into your story, which I must say is sensational! Very creative! Keep working toward your goal, you will reach it with work such as this. Can’t wait to read more!

    1. Thanks a lot (: If you look at the right hand side of my blog, you’ll see my categories. If you click Picture It & Write, you can see all the contributions to these things. You should check out the blog that is linked in the article, it’s a really good blog and a lot of other writers like myself comment with their contributions.

      Thanks,
      Daniel

    1. I was getting confused about the hat but then realised you mean in my little picture when I comment not the one in the About page aha. It’s not mine actually, it’s my girlfriends, she took it back off me 😦

    1. Wow thank you, so now do I have to nominate a few people and say facts about myself? Also, now im nominated have I won? Or is there a blog that “hosts” the awards aha? I’m confused, but saying i’m phenomenal just wow thanks :DD

I look forward to reading your work (:

      1. You are so welcome! Much deserved. ^_^

You copy the award images into a post, nominate some folks, and write about yourself, yes! And nominated = won around here, heehee (I was confused by that at first, too). You’ll want to link back to my post, and link the people who you nominate (letting them know on their about pages is nice, too).

        Again, congrats!

        1. Thank you, I have just finished my post and picked my nominations aha 😀 I’ll tell them now aha. I linked to your page, I’ll change it so it’s the exact post (:

  18. Good for you, Daniel, for starting your writing at a young age. Some of us are late bloomers, but (as they say), better late than never.

    Stay diligent!

  19. Hi Daniel,
Thanks for following my poetry blog (http//:dirtywordlaundry.wordpress.com). I came over to find out what you are all about, and I must say I like what I see. I wish you success in your endeavors. Keep writing!

  20. woow..I don’t know what to say…but it’s totally cool..you did a good job…I lost my poems when I was kid too.. It sucks…It’s pleasure to read your blog and to know that there is another person who had the same accident like..*lol..
but i hope someday, you’ll get back your 13 chapter story..:)

  21. Thanks for dropping by my blog. It’s nice to “meet” you. I’ll look forward to reading about your journeys as they unfold.

  22. Hey Daniel,

Thank you for the follow to my blog and I’m looking forward to getting to know yours a little better. Writing is such a beautiful thing and I can’t wait to be in touch with yours. I can feel the inspiration running through my mind already. (:

  23. Hi Daniel. Regarding an earlier comment that stories become unsalable once they’ve been uploaded for everyone to read, I figure there’s more of a chance that some people will read my stories if I post them than if I bury them in submissions piles and maybe never getting them published. So I upload my stories to my wordpress blog (klurgsheld.wordpress.com), to OpenSalon, and even to OpEdNews to improve the chances that they’re read. Strangely, Google puts my blog first of 272,000,000 results when you search for political short stories, 3rd of 1,400,000,000 results for business short stories and first of 3,630,000 results for metaphysical short stories. Good luck with your writing!

    1. My plan with my first novel is to self publish on the kindle and other eBook sites, so my issue is more that if it does well and I take it to a publisher, that if I have posted a large amount of content onto my blog, I may end up self plagarising myself essentially. What I am going to do soon though is create a new paged called “The Bond” which will be the “hub” if you will for all things novel related. The Bond is the title of the book I have been working on, I am currently in “pre-production” if you will, planning the novel and soon I will start writing it, I already have the first chapter written so I will be able to get into the swing of things quickly, I just need to work at all the nooks and crannies.

  24. Hi, thank you for being interested in my blog. I just started so I’m a bit nervous about it all, but being followed by an experienced writer really made my day. I’m curious about your work. I’ll definitely have to check it out. 🙂

    1. Thanks for your kind words (: Although I wouldn’t say I’m “an experienced writer”. But again, thank you.

And it can make people nervous at first, putting their work out there, but nearly everyone I have met on WordPress are lovely, if you do get the odd one, you can delete their comments and never look at them again (:

  25. Hi Daniel,
Nice to meet you, Thanks for visiting my blog and following along.By the way, before I forget, love how your blog is laid out.
You have a very goal orientated sense about your process and its quite charming as well will be very successful for you.
I look forward to getting to know you & your blog more, very soo.

  26. I’m so sorry if this is late, but I wanted to thank you for following my blog. I truly appreciate it. 😀 Thank you once again!

  27. Many thanks for following, Daniel. I haven’t yet had time to peruse your work, but from what I’ve seen you’re doing very good things and no doubt going very good places. Keep it up, amigo!
    Peace.

  28. Hi Daniel, thanks for following my blog. I am newly returned to the blogging world, and still a little amazed by the fact that people who don’t know me may still choose to read about me. I look forward to exploring your own site in more detail. I’m glad that you were able to find your true calling despite getting off to a rocky start in school. Isn’t it funny how much less like “work” work feels when it’s something you really want to do. I love that you’re from England too. I was just there last summer doing research for my novel. Such a remarkable, storied country.

    1. Hi, there’s nothing to be amazed about though if you think about it. Anyone can stumble across your work and if that work is good (like yours, I especially like your Author2.0 post) they’re bound to hit the follow button.

And yeah work definitely is more fun when you aren’t forced to do it.

England can be a pretty good place to live, but I really want to move to America or Canada eventually.

  29. Daniel – thanks for following my blog. Its always nice tpo know, as I am sure you are only too well aware, that somebody appreciates what you are doing.
Good luck with the goals, looks like your going to be busy these next few years.
Feel free to link my posts to your blog – the more people that see my work the better as far as I am concerned.
    Cheers,
    Colin
    .

    1. Hi Colin, thanks for taking the time to comment. Thanks for the luck, I’ll take all I can get aha.

If you’re interested in getting your work seen check out Fresh Ink, a blog I run that is all about showcasing others work, take a look at the about page to see if you like it and if you do then check out the Write For Us page.

      Blog can be found here:

  30. Hi there, thanks for following my blog. I’ve been looking around yours and it is very interesting. I also would like to make a living as writer, you see, and would it help you to know that our stories are kind of similar? I wrote a novel that was based (and by that I mean, exactly the same story with different names) on the Lord of the Rings. I was, I think, around 12 o 13 and thankfully, I think that this ripping off phase is over although apparently this is very common among writers. There’s no Creative Writing career where I live, unfortunately, but don’t worry because I plan on succeed regardless. Anyway, there’s that. And thanks.

    1. Thanks for your comment, it’s good to know there is someone else out there like that. It must be just a part of being a young writer, you write inside your comfort zone etc. I wish you much success (:

  31. Thanks for stopping “thecoveyletter” I like your approach here. In your bio you mention that you started this writing thing late….you must know that is far from late in your young life. Keep writing, it is who you are.

  32. Boy – a lot of life lived for a 20 – ishy guy. Thak you for signing up for my blog.
I plan to come back and visit here again. You blog is quite interesting and, definitely, varied.
Good Luck with the book writing. The prologue has been intriguing.
    Isadora

  33. Heya!

We wanted to give you a huge thanks for following our blog! Between your game review blog and this one, along with your studies, you must be really hard at work doing what you love. You’re subtle and witty, and you’ve got a wicked sense of humour. Keep dreaming, keep striving, and keep writing– and good luck!

    ~Fidget and Squeak

    1. Hi thanks for the compliments and the comments (:!

I’m glad you enjoy my writings, and you’re right, it is a lot of effort but worth it definitely.

Unfortunately I don’t write to my game blog anymore, my effort focuses on Fresh Ink so if you haven’t seen that blog feel free to check it out fresh1nk.wordpress.com

  34. I believe you came back to your writing at the right time planned for you, your passion may not have driven it as far in the past, so there’s never a late time. Words form Windows, I love your blog name, thanks for the follow!

  35. The best of everything Daniel and great to see young people with goals and developing their talents. ~Abundant blessings and peace…and thank you!

  36. Hey, excellent to meet you. Glad you’re following my blog. 20. Good you’re into it and ready to push on. I always wanted to write too, so I do. It’s no slick road. Writing every day is the thing. You learn so much all the while, especially shit you never even had a frame of reference for before you meet it on the way. very rewarding. you’ll do well.

  37. Thanks for following my blog. I love the name of yours and your style of writing. I look forward to reading more! And 20 is NOT getting into writing too late. Writing is in the blood, waiting to be expressed when the chemistry collides and you burst with what you need to say, what you must say. Thanks for saying it.

      1. Well, not being silly. I know what you mean about “getting in”. For me, it’s more like re-focusing on a love.

  38. Hi there, thanks for stopping by today! You sound like a cool dude, I will be checking out your writings in the morning.
    Best wishes,
    D.N.

  39. I know this comment is a little late, but I’ve finally reached summer vacation and have some free time (I teach in Japan so the schedule is a little different). Your About page is amazingly detailed. I’m almost intimidated at how organized and openly you are able to write about yourself. Like you, I love writing and one of my specializations also is Creative Writing. When I read your posts, I feel very relaxed and the tone reminds me of a writer’s workshop. Keep writing so that I can keep commenting!

    1. Wow thank you for the kind words (: The good thing about blogging for me is I feel I can be open about everything I don’t know why, but it feels just like an awesome community etc (:

I look forward to your comments 😀

  40. I thank you for following my blog and I shall aim to inspire you with my own content :). I do indeed wish you luck on your career path and I dodabble in creative writing myself occasionally.

  41. Hi Daniel
thanks for visiting & following my blog today. I read your “about” and much items laid out there rang a bell (writing since an early age, a novel written when 14 & discarded, coming late to writing again , huge interest in screen -tv, movies-, poetry, etc…)

Keep on with your goals, you can reach them!

I am also keen on producing writings for contests, since deadlines are good for both creativity & adjustment of ego to real world. Here some info about contests, hope this help, but surely, you know already about them!

  42. Thanks for following my blog and bringing me to yours! 🙂 I’m 15 and love writing, art. I shoot films sometimes and I really want a creative career. Reading about you showed me that I don’t have to jump into anything, I can just take my time a bit and find my ‘calling’ and not end up homeless just because my reports aren’t flawless. Coming from an Asian family, creativity is often stamped out but you’ve inspired me to bounce back.

    1. Wow thanks for your words (: Definitely never give up, take it slow and figure out what you want to do, an author? A poet? A screenwriter? Something completely different it doesn’t matter and if you make any choices that turn out to not be the right ones, forget about it, you can always start again! Keep up the good work! If you ever want any feedback or advice feel free to email at contact@wordsformwindows.com

  43. Thanks for following my blog. I love discovering new writers. I just made the move back to NYC to focus on writing and film making full time. It’s exciting and daunting at the same time, but very much worth it. Good luck to you!

      1. LOL. I’m staying with family at the moment (because rent is so high). But it’s definitely an experience. I’m sure you will love it when you get here!

  44. Thanks for the follow, Daniel! From what I see so far, you’ve got a real knack for words! I look forward to hearing updates during your screenwriting process 🙂

    J

    1. I mention my thought on awards in my about page I like to know people are thinking of my blog though! Just don’t see much value in them I’d much rather someone just leave me a comment telling me they like my blog or something (:! It just feels like chain mail to me is all 😛

  45. Thank you for the follow. I’m relatively new to this blogging thing, so hope to catch up soon. Back to school, too, after a few too many years away, so we’ll see how that goes as well. Seems like you have a good head on your shoulders and a great direction to follow. Best of luck!

  46. Daniel, thanks so much for visiting and following my site. Much good luck as you finish up with school and start a new chapter.

  47. Daniel, best of luck on your writing future. This is long overdo, but thank you for following the 4feet2mouths travel & food blog. We appreciate you as a reader.
