About

Hello my name is Daniel Postlethwaite, I’m a blogger/writer based in Blackpool, Lancashire, wishing this was my full time job but at the moment working in a call centre to pay the bills….one day!

It’s alright here I suppose!

Got a degree in Creative Writing and Film and TV Screenwriting which was fun.

Any questions please feel free to get in touch and I’ll be more than happy to help.

  2. Awesome, who knows maybe one day we’ll see one of your works on TV? Sounds like you’ve got it all worked out pretty well 🙂 University of Central Lancs is one of the universities I’m looking at for English Language and Journalism. I’m hoping to get into media as well 🙂

    1. English and Journalism are awesome here, especially Journalism, they have strong links to the Film and TV Production students here as well as the Screenwriting students, so if you needed a segment writing for example you could email the screenwriting tutor and he would pass it along.

  5. Very interesting bio, Daniel. The good thing about being able to admit you were a “rebel” is that you’re through it (been there, done that type of thing) and now you can focus on what you really want to do in life. Good luck with all your endeavors!

      And unfortunately not, although that would have been amazing.

      Although, I could be? Who knows, I think he was from the same sort of area my family came from, and it’s not the most popular name, but if I am it’s going to be an insanely long family tree from him to me aha. It’d be interesting to find out some day.

      Hopefully my name will help me in the industry when I apply for things aha.

    For background might I suggest http://redoable.wordpress.com/about. All that experience I had and I’m starting all over again.after a stroke. Stick to your plan. The only bad advice I ever gave was to a journalism student who was offered a job in 1978 – I said “Too new, I don’t know if I would risk it”. The job was with CNN. He later became a Vice-President. He had the foresight to hire me.

  18. I wouldn’t say you’ve “come to it late.” I was 23 or 24 before I started writing, though Astea knows I wish I’d started sooner.
    You almost made my head spin with all the academic stuff…I’m not a fan of academics or organized education and a downright enemy of forced schooling but you seem to have come through ok 🙂 Just remember not to post anything here you want to try and sell…

    1. Hi, yeah of course, although I do post my scripts here that I may some day want to sell, it’s good to get feedback on them. My plan with my novel is once I have something tangible, only to post excerpts that I think need focus on, and then release the final thing once it is complete and has made the rounds of friends and family (:

      Im not opposed to going to school, it is necessary to educate the youth, although something clearly isn’t working with the “chav” culture we have in England. They’re getting younger and younger, which makes me feel old saying that, and I’m only 20!

Well, I never had a day of formalized schooling in my life, and I came out ok 🙂 Nor, although I realize some people dislike these stories, did the author of the Inheritance series (actually, he may have had some I’m not sure when his folks took him out or if they ever sent him.) All that is necessary to educate youth is their parents. Of course, that’s partly because the only thing you really need to be taught is how to read. Once you’ve got that, especially now a days, you can learn anything else you want relatively easily.

    I don’t know much about script writing or the process for selling scripts, I just know I was irritated to find out that the stories I’d put online years ago became automatically unsaleable. Obviously, I got over it.

I guess education nowadays is mainly for jobs, but as you said you’ve came out ok, so I guess it’s not really needed, I think the main advantage is to help demo a wide range of things to see if you can find your “calling” in life, although that again, is easily done outside of an educational system.

      I never knew Paolini never attended school, I really liked his books, the fact they made a film (albeit a horrific one) showed someone somewhere thought he had talent to. I really want his latest book, but I will have to dig out the first three again I think to get up to speed.

      1. Like I said, I don’t know if he was “homeschooled” all along as I was but I think possibly and I know at least from a young age. And he earned a degree of some kind when he was like 15 or 16. I’ve only read Eragon and while it certainly has flaws and is definitely quite derivative, I’d say it was a pretty good effort for someone as young as he was at the time.
        And yes, the Eragon movie was pretty iffy. The only really good parts was that actor who played Durza, I forget his name but he put in a nice performance, and the 10 seconds of Ed Speleers with his shirt off.
        Now a days…and, really, for its entire relatively short history, forced schooling is mostly for social engineering (what might be more dramatically called brainwashing) and babysitting. It’s even worse over here. The American school system was created to facilitate the doing of incredible things economically and it succeeded at that for some time but at a cost much much higher than most people realize (despite the fact that said cost is within them and stares them in the face day in and day out.)
        But, I grow maudlin. I mostly stopped back by to say, thanks for following me.

It’ll get there eventually, don’t worry about it, I’ve been at ity for about a year now and it’s only just getting off the ground for me, but its a learning experience and if you comment and talk to as many people as you can then you will gain a few friends in the community (: Good luck with it all!

    I’m surprised you think coming to novel writing at age 20 is ‘late’. I would say it is very early actually. I did not begin to write my first one (since abandoned) until I was about 40 and my latest ones were written in the last year.
    Congratulations on having your goals in my mind at your age. I was still messing about until I was much much older.

  33. Hi Daniel. Regarding an earlier comment that stories become unsalable once they’ve been uploaded for everyone to read, I figure there’s more of a chance that some people will read my stories if I post them than if I bury them in submissions piles and maybe never getting them published. So I upload my stories to my wordpress blog (klurgsheld.wordpress.com), to OpenSalon, and even to OpEdNews to improve the chances that they’re read. Strangely, Google puts my blog first of 272,000,000 results when you search for political short stories, 3rd of 1,400,000,000 results for business short stories and first of 3,630,000 results for metaphysical short stories.     1. My plan with my first novel is to self publish on the kindle and other eBook sites, so my issue is more that if it does well and I take it to a publisher, that if I have posted a large amount of content onto my blog, I may end up self plagarising myself essentially. What I am going to do soon though is create a new paged called “The Bond” which will be the “hub” if you will for all things novel related. The Bond is the title of the book I have been working on, I am currently in “pre-production” if you will, planning the novel and soon I will start writing it, I already have the first chapter written so I will be able to get into the swing of things quickly, I just need to work at all the nooks and crannies.

      And yeah work definitely is more fun when you aren’t forced to do it.

      England can be a pretty good place to live, but I really want to move to America or Canada eventually.

  41. Hi there, thanks for following my blog. I’ve been looking around yours and it is very interesting. I also would like to make a living as writer, you see, and would it help you to know that our stories are kind of similar? I wrote a novel that was based (and by that I mean, exactly the same story with different names) on the Lord of the Rings. I was, I think, around 12 o 13 and thankfully, I think that this ripping off phase is over although apparently this is very common among writers. There’s no Creative Writing career where I live, unfortunately, but don’t worry because I plan on succeed regardless. Anyway, there’s that. And thanks.

  69. I know this comment is a little late, but I’ve finally reached summer vacation and have some free time (I teach in Japan so the schedule is a little different). Your About page is amazingly detailed. I’m almost intimidated at how organized and openly you are able to write about yourself. Like you, I love writing and one of my specializations also is Creative Writing. When I read your posts, I feel very relaxed and the tone reminds me of a writer’s workshop.     thanks for visiting & following my blog today. I read your “about” and much items laid out there rang a bell (writing since an early age, a novel written when 14 & discarded, coming late to writing again , huge interest in screen -tv, movies-, poetry, etc…)

Reading about you showed me that I don’t have to jump into anything, I can just take my time a bit and find my ‘calling’ and not end up homeless just because my reports aren’t flawless. Coming from an Asian family, creativity is often stamped out but you’ve inspired me to bounce back.
