“Meaning” – First Draft of What Shall Be A Spoken Word Poem

Hey, I’ve been listening to a lot of spoken word poetry recently and I thought with my YouTube endeavors and my love for writing and reading poetry, that I would give it a go and see what I can do. I’ve written the following and wondered what you guys thought of it, does it make sense?

Obviously it’s written with me speaking it in my mind, so the inflections and pauses etc won’t come across in reading it, but I thought I’d see if anyone has anything to offer up anyways.

———–

As I sit here alone,
My minds begins to wander.
And these thoughts I do ponder.
Why are we here?
What is the meaning of all this?

You can joke ‘the meaning of life is 42’,
But I believe if we really thought it through,
We’d lose our minds.
Can life even be defined?
Most of us are content with nine to five’s,
We’ll get up and get on with our daily lives.

And that’s fine.

But what of the the thinkers?
The dreamers?
The ‘I want something more than this’-ers?
We get laughed at for being creative,
Letting our minds wander, contemplating.
But living in dreams,
And creating other worlds seems,
To be the only thing we can do.

You can joke ‘the meaning of life is 42’
But I believe if we really thought it through
We’d see there is no scripted ‘meaning’
We exist and that’s it.
But that’s not to say life’s not worth living.

It just means we have to find,
A reason deep inside,
Money,
Glory,
Happiness,

You can joke that ‘the meaning of life is 42’
But I believe if we really thought it through,
We’d see that the meaning of life is whatever we choose.
