Fall

Like an old rope bridge,
Connecting our lives.
The rope is slowly rotting,
Its strength becoming weak.

Halt!
Don’t take another step.
If we get any closer,
This illusion will fall.

Like an old rope bridge,
Swaying in the wind.
The cable isn’t stable,
You’ll fall, fall, fall.

One final attempt to cross can be made,
An end but also a beginning,
No matter which way you view it.
Death or life.

So, step forth if you dare.
This tension is too great to bear.
I hold out hope you’ll make it across to me.

But I refuse to watch you fall.
